Yahoo SMTP Setup

Around 225 million people use Yahoo at present. Yahoo Mail provides a single outgoing SMTP service for all accounts. You need to authenticate the Yahoo SMTP with your full email ID and App Password through smtp.mail.yahoo.com.


Yahoo SMTP Server Details

  • SMTP Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  • Ports:
    • 465 (SSL)
    • 587 (STARTTLS)
  • Encryption:
    • SSL on port 465
    • TLS/STARTTLS on port 587
  • Authentication: Required
  • Username: Your full Yahoo email address
  • Password: Your account password or generated app password

Generating an App Password

If you have Two-Step Verification enabled then you must create an App Password to authenticate your SMTP authentication.

  1. Sign in at https://login.yahoo.com and go to Account Security.
  2. Under "App Password", click "Generate app password".
  3. Enter an identical name (e.g., "Orkap SMTP Client") and click Generate.
  4. Copy the 16-character password - use it instead of your regular password in SMTP settings.

Sending Limits & Quotas

You can send up to 500 messages in 24 hours. If you hit the limit, Yahoo will tell you how long you should wait to send the next email.
